April 2024 marks five-years since a radical hysterectomy was the solution to my cervical cancer diagnosis. As I hit that five year mark, which means a cancer-free status, I find myself wanting to do two things: I want to give back to the hospital that saved my life and I want to have fun with my friends!
To achieve those goals, Geeks versus Nerds, the award winning podcast and live comedy show is hosting a Charity Reunion Show on April 4, 2025 at the McInnes Theatre (Dalhousie Student Union Building). All profits from this show will go to the QEII Foundation Patient Assistance Fund.

While hearing the words "It's cancer" and going through the surgery and recovery was tough, it was made easier by the support of friends and family, and by knowing my needs were met while I was off work for several weeks. Not every patient has this kind of security. The QEII Foundation Patient Assistance Fund helps patients pay for amenities and services — necessities that can create financial burdens for people during an illness. Grants of up to $1,000 will help patients pay for rent, mortgage, lodging, home utilities, transportation (to medical appointments), food, car insurance/repair, phone services and medication not covered by a medical plan.
The Patient Assistance Fund is 100 per cent donor-funded and makes a strong impact in our local and provincial community. While I hope all of my friends and family can make it to the GvN Reunion, I know it might not be possible. So, if you're unable to attend, please consider a gift to the support the fund, and celebrate with me!
We're happy to support this great cause Catherine!
