In memory of
John Hunkin

We are deeply saddened by the loss of John Hunkin. John and his wife, Susan Crocker, have a long tradition of philanthropy and together established the Innovation Catalyst Fund at the QEII Foundation. Inspired by their desire to highlight the importance of research and to challenge others to invest, their generous $1-million gift established the QEII Foundation’s Innovation Den event in 2023.

All donations will directly support the Innovation Catalyst Fund; grants for breakthrough medical research and innovation to transform patient care. John’s commitment to imagining what’s possible and elevating care to the next level will continue to inspire us.

A memorial book will be shared with the family advising them of your donation and message. Thank you for your thoughtful generosity.

Susan, Dawn, Tara, Lauren, David and I extend our deepest sympathy to all of you. John was so special - I encountered him frequently in our daily "dog walks" around the village, and he was always bright, positive, encouraging, and so loved by so many people. I am sure you have heard from too many to count - because the untimely death of a person who did so much good, and who truly made the world a better place to be, is a loss to all of us as well. Take good care of yourselves, and know that you are loved and supported by the people, communities and projects with which you have been involved. We care. With love, Nancy

As our neighbours in Toronto John claimed he babysat me as a kid. Our family were thrilled to follow the development of John's career at the bank and later on, I had the thrill of interacting directly with him in business and on the Dean's Advisory Council at Schulich. In all his dealings he demonstrated intelligence, commitment, humour , humility and a personable sense of self. He will be missed.
