This concert features Standard Time Jazz Ensemble whose
members have, singly, played all over the world under the jazz, big band,
musical theatre, country, folk, world musical and classical umbrellas. The
net proceeds from this concert will go towards the purchase of the CT
Simulators and help bring personalized, world-leading cancer care to the
QEII for every patient who needs it.
Each year, 7,000 Nova Scotians are diagnosed with cancer.
Nearly half of them will require radiation as part of their treatment plan. One
critical machine makes these life-saving radiation treatments possible: the CT
Simulator, a machine with sophisticated imaging technology that helps a
patient’s cancer care team pinpoint the exact location and shape of their
tumour. With Nova Scotia cancer rates growing by five per cent each year, the
current CT Simulator is operating at full capacity and is nearing the end of
its expected lifespan. By replacing the current, outdated CT Simulator with new
state-of-the-art technology and adding a second machine, the QEII can
immediately increase capacity to see more patients each day, while decreasing
wait times and delays. When it comes to cancer, timing is everything.
